Welcome to Fetch and Contitude book book Podcast. I'm Melissa and I'm Elise. This show is about two very best friends who love books but also love talking about life occurrences. Join us for the girl talk. It'll get real, it'll get fun, it'll get interesting. Sit down, buckle up, and let us talk to you about all the things today. We are talking about book club updates and book news, books to the big screen and our thoughts on them, and a question of the week. Thanks for joining us. Hey, guys, so we just want to let you know ahead of time that there is so much sickness right now in the family. It's just floating around, so please just bear with us. There might be some sniffles, there might be some coughing. We both sound atrocious, but we're here. Whoo yeah, well, I mean I sound like a man. So that's that. That's fun. So excited. So we have read the first well, we're supposed to read the first five chapters of The Cory Girls. We kind of figured it out. If we read five chapters every week, we should be able to be right on target for March thirty. First, I, however, only read to I read through chapter four. I read through chapter five. There will probably be some spoilers. Maybe not this week, but there probably will be some spoilers, so just be aware. So if you would like to read with us this next podcast, we will be reading through ten. I'm going to try to get there. Like I said, there's been a lot of sickness. Yeah, I was dead half the week. We're trying. Okay, So I guess first thoughts on the book. I first thought is, right now, there's too much jumping around. I wish that I could give you my thoughts on it, but I feel like I'm not far enough in to have any real thoughts because of the writing style, which is fine. I just at this point I don't have any thoughts because there isn't enough book for me to have thoughts on. If that makes. Sense, all right, And I mean with the whole jumping around thing, I think there are just too many characters jumping around, Like each chapter kind of jumps between a couple characters, and it's just kind of confusing timeline wise where things are headed. However, I do already have suspicions. I also have suspicions. So and we should say if in case you don't know this book is a mystery thriller. The preface was really good, though it was the. Only thing that I can say right now, which might be a spoiler, is I can't wait to learn more about the tunnels. I don't know why that. Is, Oh my gosh. Yes. Can you imagine if we had houses that were attached by tunnels, we would just we. Would never be in our own homes. I mean, to be completely fair, I feel like you guys are never in your own home anyways, Like. You're always here, you have a little we don't have to worry about that, I know. But I mean that is I mean, that's what I think fascinates me the most. Too. I feel like, and this could be completely wrong, but I feel like the book is going to revolve around these tunnels. But these tunnels are actually like based off from the town is real, right, there were several murders and this is all explained in the preface before the book actually begins. But the tunnels under these houses are actually real and they do exist. So that's what fascinates me the most. I think, Yeah, I. Still think that I wish that I had those, But also I'm a little bit scared as to what's coming. I agree. I mean I would probably be terrified of the tunnels, like it just reminds me too much of the tunnels from like Stephen King's it. Oh yeah, no, thank you. It scares me. So that's the first like couple pages. I will say it is very confusing, A stick with it because I'm much more interested in now that I'm into the I would say the later chapters, but we're still in the beginning. But by chapter four I was very intrigued on how things were going, and there were several characters introduced. I'm not sure I'm really liking a good portion of the character. Well, I also don't like a good portion of the characters. I think that that's by design, though, I think you're supposed to not like them. I think it's supposed to cast a lot of doubt on everyone you meet. I do think now that we're getting ready to go into like Beth's. Second chapter herself. Like Beth is one of the main characters, I think the story is pretty much. Going to revolve around her. But you only get snippets of Beth right now. That so the end of the fifth chapter is another Beth chapter. I think I read one page of it and then realized that I went too far. As I stopped. But I think, okay, great, that sounds so typical for you. O. Well, because Beth chapters I don't think counts a number chapter. I don't think they. I think they're like at either the very beginning of the chapter or the very end of the chapters. Just to give again those snippets of Beth's perspective. Yes, now that we're I think this is the second Beth chapter, and I. Think it might be the third. I think now that we have another Beth chapter, I'm excited because I think it's gonna tie a lot of it together, or I'm hoping it ties a lot of it together, but I'm not sure. Like I said, there's just not been enough for me to give you a real answer. Yeah. So I guess that is our update for this. We'll have another update on the book next week after we read through chapter ten. I should say we. Should have clarified that to begin with. Yeah, yeah, we didn't really well, we didn't have a good idea of what we were going to be able to read. I think we talked about it like midweeks, so we hadn't recorded it. But I think an average of five chapters a week if you can. If you can't, that's perfectly fine, like we've said many times before. But I don't think it would be too hard. For people to do five chapters a week. This book is a pretty easy read other than trying to figure out your characters in your timeline, right, And. I think it was only what it was thirty something pages to get through chapter five. I think so something like that. Yeah, it looks like the next best chapter starts on page thirty nine on my kidnel. Yeah, so it's been pretty it's pretty quick. If you're able to do like a chapter a night, you should be okay, Like you should be plenty okay, except for me, because apparently I can't do it. I was planning on reading it last night because I have it on my kindle, but that just did not. I fell asleep. That's allowed to allow it. So along with our update on our book club read, we also wanted to let the listeners know about several giveaway sites giveaways just in general. I know that Goodreads usually does book giveaways in multiple formats. They do a lot of Kindle, a lot of print. I don't know off the top of my head. If they do audio, I'm fairly certainly do though, as long as you have an Amazon account, Yeah, I. Agree, I think a lot of them. You should be able to see. You should be able to see the format under the book that's being given away. It will tell you. It will either tell you print, kindle or audio. I know StoryGraph also does the same thing, so it's good to keep both of them in your thoughts. If you have a desire to go look to get some free books. I also will give you a little hint that if you are going for a good Reads book, it helps. If you rate your books, it helps you get chosen. I don't know why. I do not know that. Actually we all know. I hate doing that. But there was one month that I rated a bunch of books and I won two books. So I was like, okay, makes sense. Oh well that yeah, I guess that kind of does make sense. I mean, I write all my books though I'm not well, so I write all my books on Goodreads, and I think I've gotten a grand total since I've been doing this for over a year two Whereas like my mother, your sister, but that's okay, not yeah, okay, so my sister is actually much more selective on her good Reads than my mother is. My mother reads anything and everything, and we'll just pick everything. I've done that too, and it doesn't matter. I know, I don't know why, like they must just like her name has to be. So. I also wanted to let everybody know that there is a I mean, it might be a little bit late for this once this episode gets out, but there is a reading challenge on StoryGraph right now for January twenty twenty six. If you read a minute on audio or a page on print or kindle, you are qualified. As long as you read one of those every day for the month of January, which you can go in and edit to add missing information, you are qualified for. Five winners will each receive a Cobo Clara color and remote twelve Libro dot FM audio book credits, one hundred dollars suspend at bookshop dot org, a year subscription to our Plus Plan giftable if you are are a Plus member. Nice. Oh yeah no, And that's what caught my eye, Like even though I've ruined my chances already, I did not read last night, but I've ruined my chances already, and I'm not gonna. Cheat, so I Kenna yells at me if I don't read. So I'm like, oh no, is. That a notification like a setting you have? See I couldn't. I'd look at it and be like, we'll screw you. I'm sorry. See I would. I would also do that. But I am at eight hundred days in a row. That's right, Yes, yes, you have a huge like God, I would vomit if I missed it. So Melyssa. With that being said, how many books have you read for the month of January? Because this girl has read and finished zippo. I've read five god to be fair, one of them I was partially through, but I counted it as January because I finished in January. Yeah, but I do that too if I finish them, like whenever I finish them, that's the month I count them in. I finished three physical and two kindle books this year, and I'm reading two kindle books and two physical books right now. Yeah. I think I need to put down my physical that I am currently reading right now because I haven't picked it up in a few weeks. Yeah, I think you need a break from it, honestly, And the worst part is I'm not that far in it just it kind of intimidates me a little bit. Yeah, it sounds like it might be a lot. Yeah, I think it's a lot for right now, just like at the beginning of the year rebooting. For me, it's a lot. I think I'll be fine in the summer when i can read it outside where I'm much more comfortable. But I think at this point I probably should just pick a book for my twenty six of twenty six and go with it, like something small and simple for me. So my issue is, and it's not an issue because I'm so excited for these books anyway, but I have three books that I have borrowed that I have to get through before. I'll allow myself to read anything else. And I just there's some books on my list that I want to read so bad. Well, I still have two books that are on my list that that you've let me borrow. I've had them for what over two years? Whatever, it's not a big deal. That doesn't bother me. But for me, if I know that I have one of your books, my goal is to finish it as fast as I can, which I mean my work friend would say that's a lie there, but between her and I whatever, m M. She takes mine, I take her as whatever. That doesn't bother me because I just feel like her books. Are an extension of my books. But I have another person at work who will lend me a book and it's actually not her book, it's her niece's book. Oh God, So I feel like I have to get that. Yeah, that one I would probably start and finish first. Oh okay. So I wanted to bring up some releases that have already come out and some that are going to be coming out soon in the month of January. So January fifth, The Invisible Woman by James Patterson and Susan d'alio. I'm probably butchering that, and I apologize. I can't really enunciate right now with my snows being stuffed. But The Invisible Woman by James Patterson and Susan d'alio was released January fifth. On January sixth, Track of Courage by Susan May Warren was released. The Charmed Library by Jennifer Mormon was also released. Skylark by Paula McLane was released, The Windsor Legacy by Robert Jobson and the First Time I Saw Him. By Laura Dave was released all on. January sixth, and let me tell you after looking at some of the descriptions. First of all, I definitely want to read The Windsor Legacy because I am obsessed with the royal family and that's just my own personal thing. But I also would like to get Skylark. I have the rest of the series. Anyways, that's the third book in that series. I think I'm most interested in The Charmed Library. I also really want to read that one. Maybe we can make that like a quarter two read or oh it could be mm hmmm. Because I read that description, I was like, oh, that sounds like something I would love. Yeah, January ninth, which just happened this past week. Chaotic, which is the most recent book in the Lord series by Chantelle Tessier, was released on January ninth. I'm so excited. I was waiting for you to talk about. I'm so excited. I am trying. So I'm currently listening to the one before that, and I'm so trying to get through that so I can just get to the next one because I feel like the character the Lord in this in the book Chaotic is one of my favorites. That's not true. I will say like, for anybody reading the Lord's series the second book, Easton is my favorite. His nickname and most of the time he's called this in the book, his name is Sin good Lord. That doesn't surprise me at all. Each of the Lords has their own nickname for their woman, and Sin calls Ellington little demon. I feel like be like, yo, a. Oh yeah, that would most definitely be me. So I'm very excited for that one. I would like to say that chantal tests here would be one of those authors that I would want to sit down with because I'm like, tell me more. And she's done some really public book signings with the models from the cover. O Lord, such a fucking weird. Yeah, I'm sorry, are you? No, Let's move right along from it. Because you're blushing too much blushing for you. January thirteenth, which for us as we are recording, is in two days. Anatomy of an Alibi by Ashley Elston will be releasing, along with Woman Down by Colleen Hoover January twentieth. Half His Age I Jeanette mccurty and let's see, there's four in this one. My Husband's Wife by Alice Feeney Dead in the Water by John Mars and Catch Her If you Can by Tessa Bailey will also be releasing on the twentieth. I'm not gonna lie. I'm really excited for half his age. I am scared. I'm scared to know more. Really, what do you mean by that? Isn't Jeanett mccurty the same one that wrote I'm Happy my Mom died? Oh yeah, I ah, the actress. It's a novel, so I'm wondering if it's based off of life. I don't know. It doesn't look like it, but uh. And then at the end of the month January twenty seventh, Black Dahlia by William J. Mann and Dear Debbie by Freda McFadden are also going to be released. I went through a freeda kick not this past year the year before, and I read every single book that she released. I have not read any of her books yet, and I think that I would love her. The only series, the only ones that I didn't read were the house Made series, and it's because I didn't have all of them. And I can't, in my mind. Have half of a series that I read in physical and half that I read on Kindle even though they're all But. Really, I can't do it. Huh. I mean, it doesn't really bother me that much. I can't do it. See, I tried. I tried really hard because I had an Elsie Silver. I had the first one, but I didn't have the second two. Yeah in a series. Yep. I read the first one and tried so hard to read the next one on Kindle and I could not do it. I had to go buy them. Hmmmm. Well, anyways, those those are the book releases that I had found. I know there's several more. I'm just not going to list them all out. That's a pretty big list in general. I will be more on top of it come February. I think I'm gonna try to be at least. There's one in February that I'm kind of excited for, and it's a memoir. I'm really excited about that. I know, I'm so excited to tell you all about it, but we'll have to wait until the first episode of the new month, so I'll have to schedule that properly. Probably a good idea, yeah, probably. But moving right along with that, I do have another list for us, and it is the books to screen adaptations for this month, and just so you guys know. She would not tell me some of them because he knows I'm going to be excited about exciting. Well, why I have a list just for January, But then I have a list of newly announced TV or movie adaptations so for January. Already released on Netflix on January eighth was His and Hers by Alice Feeney, and also on Netflix was released January ninth, People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry. I can't wait to watch it. I can't wait. I know, I'm so excited. Not released yet, but going to be released on January twenty ninth is an offer from a Gentleman. Series four of Bridgerton. That is the one that I'm excited for. I need to watch season three. Still. The worst part about it, too is I have not read any of. The books except for I did read the first book. I know this is one of those moments that I enjoy the show more than I enjoyed the book. I don't know why. I just I thought the acting was really good. The acting is really good. I also think I don't know of the books. I can't be like, ah, they picked great characters. I think they picked really good characters. But see, so this goes. Right into my next topic. I wanted to talk about some of our favorite and least favorite book to screen adaptations, and I will tell you for me. One of my favorite because I also read the first book of this one and did not enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed the series was Outlander. I have not watched it or read. I cannot two with you. I cannot because I absolutely loved the Outlander series of TV Outlander. I own the first five Outlander books. I've just never read book. I will say I probably would have enjoyed the books if I had read them first, but I just was like, I'm gonna watch the show because I just needed something to watch. I couldn't do the books after. So if you have not seen the show, please read the book first, because I've heard that the book is so good, and I'm sure it is. I just couldn't. I couldn't, just could not. See my I think one of my favorites would be Where the Crawdads Things. Oh, I loved the book. That's very controversial. People do not like it or people love it. There's no one. Between I really liked the book, but I really liked the movie. So here is where I will actually because I read that too. I loved loved the book, he did the screen adaptation. I think that part of. The reason I liked it is I watched it with my significant other and the gasps he gusped, he was twisted turns and he was not avident, and I loved it that he was not having it because I knew what was coming. I think that was part of the reason I loved it so much. And then one that I did not like was little fires everywhere. See I haven't read that. I liked the book, I didn't love the I hated seeing it on screen. Yeah, I think they picked great characters, the people the actors play the characters. I think they did really well. It just wasn't for me. I will say, like, there's probably a lot of TV shows and movies that I've seen that I guess I didn't realize were books first, so of course I watched them like I for whatever reason, this is just me being stupid. I did not realize that True. Bloods was a book. But your gosh, darn right, I like that show was so funny. I don't know like I should have, Like it should have been like, oh duh, Vampire Diaries another one for me, Like I had a huge vampire kick in like middle school m m m m high school for me. I mean Twilight was much sch more middle school for me. But I got really heavy to vampire like series, Like I have the whole House of Night series, which is really good and I suggest it to anybody wanting to read something like an easy read. I also got into a book series called Blue Bloods, but I do not have the complete series of that because they were still coming out when I was buying them not as good to me. But also I think it's because I kept picking them up at separate times and I had to like reread. Them, right, that makes sense. But I have, like on my bookshelf itself, I have about two and a half shelves full of vampire novel I mean I don't have the Vampire Diaries, I have Vampire Academy. I have all but I think one book. Speaking of middle school high school reads, my parents would buy me a new Gossip Girl book like every time they went. To Burlington Nice. So I have or I had most of the series. I've lost a lot of it through the years, but as an adult I went and watched the Gossip Girl series. Yeah, the TV series, right, Yeah, it's so different from the books, but also seeing like key pieces of the books be brought in was wild. I think that it was different enough that I didn't hate it. It wasn't my favorite, but I didn't hate it. I think if they had followed the lot along the lines of the books perfectly, I would have despised it. So I actually have a good example of a book series that I love. Well, it's one movie right now, but there are two books, so I absolutely loved and highly suggest it Ready Player One. I know it's not for you. I'm much more of a nerd than you. Art's fine, but it depends on what because there are times where I nerd out hard on things and you're like, ew, shut up, I don't want hear about it. Yeah, but I mean it's much more you. So Ready Player One is one of my favorite books of all time. It really is. It's up there, and I can't express how excited I was when they announced they were making it into a movie. You're gosh darn right. I watched that movie and I hated it with my soul. I hate the movie. I mean the acting is great, don't get me wrong. They did not follow the book whatsoever. And it pisses me off to no end. Like I if I could, I would fight this director. You're getting so eat it. I love it. I hate it. I'm not joking. I would get into fights about this because I absolutely hate this movie. And the worst part is my husband loves it, and I'm like, yeah, sure we can watch it, but. I'm not gonna enjoy it. Right, I will say here and I will watch it, but I'm not gonna be happy about it. No. It like, okay, the whole the whole book revolves around three different games, like retro games, and it's like a riddle. They did not put in one specific game. They didn't do them in order. I'm telling you, this is why it pissed me off. And I'm like, this is such crap. It's such crap, because I'm sorry, if you're gonna make a movie, at least try to make it somewhat following the plot, right. Pissed me. See. I think that that's my different with the Gossip Girl series because they didn't follow the books. I'm happier. They didn't follow the books. I mean, in the books, it's much more middle schooly, high schoolly. They definitely made this for an adult audience, or a more adult audience. It still has a lot of like high school themes. But I mean I probably shouldn't have been reading the books when I was reading them either. There was a lot of inappropriate things. I also started reading adult books really young, when was much too young to read adult books. On that note, actually, here's a good, fun little like story my mother. I don't mean to pick on your mom, I'm really sorry. So my mother has always been into romance novels. So back when I was younger, like my mom had all of her books kind of like out displayed whatever, knowing. That they were racy. Yeah, I mean I was young. I didn't know, not until I got into like middle school, and I went and picked one off the shelf. I didn't read the whole thing. I didn't even read all of it, like at all. Like I didn't, I just found the parts. I don't know where that book is anymore. I feel like I stole it and it's just gotten lost on the way. But I would love to find that book again just to actually read it. So I have one of those stories too. Oh god. The house I grew up in was not huge, it was it was a very confined space. My mom and dad had a shared bookshelf in the living room, and I went to a friend's. House we had a sleepover. I saw her mam was reading this book and I was like, oh my mom, pas this book. I'm gonna read it. I was eighth grade maybe it was She's come undone, Oh no, And I remember going out to my mom and being like, mom, what does this mean? And she's like, why are you reading that? No? Oh my god, that is hilarious. Oh mam. And Me's like, where did why? Why this one? Oh my god? Okay, the worst part about mine too, Like the book that I found. It was an old like seventies or eighties romance. It was ah, it was not great, but do you know what in my little mind back in the day, because I was such a sheltered child growing up, that was it for me. I remember one of the main characters names is Portia, and I could not, for the life of me figure out how to see. Oh my god, that was so mad. And now looking back on it. I'm like, girl, you should not anywhere near that book. No. No. So there are a few book to screen adaptations that I did find on social media. I'm not sure when they're getting released. They were just to be determined or at least announced at this point. There's nothing to say that they won't get canceled down the line or anything. But I have a few of them, and I did want to I did want to mention a few to you specifically. There is a TV adaptation that is projected for twenty twenty six release by El Kennedy. What is the deal there? There is another El Kennedy book that doesn't necessarily have a release date yet, and it isn't even say if it's going to be released in twenty six. Are you ready Tommy Girl Abroad? Yay, that's on my list this year. So. Another couple big ones to mention that have been announced for movie or TV series adaptations are Butcher and Blackbird. Okay, I like that. I need to try that one again. I can't wait to see how they formulate that with all. Oh oh god, I can't even imagine my screen The one I am excited for though they're planning on making a TV adaptation of the mind Fuck series. I have not read that, and I need to. You would love it to me? They were like short novellas. I know they have a bigger book of it, but technically speaking, there are I think it's six books in one and it is a really quick read. I actually listened to all of them on audible quick, like three hours like that, And and I read on one point seven speed. Yeah, what speed do you read on? I listen to audio books at two point seven. I can't even imagine. It must sound like a mouse like squeaking in your ear. I love no. One of the other ones that's getting released that I think we are both excited for, and it's actually on my list to read this year is the Love Hypothesis. That's so excited for that one too. Yeah, that's supposedly being turned into a movie. Fun The Teacher by Freeda McFadden is supposedly getting a movie adaptation on Apple Original Films. That was a good one. I think would like that one. You have said that before to me. Actually I think one. Uh. Supposedly Quicksilver by Callie Hart is supposed to be getting a movie on Netflix. Not me asking earlier, which one. Of course, it's the fantasy one. So I'll put a full list of the two be determines, maybe with like a picture of the not like the cover, because some people just don't know by name, and that's fine. I'll put that list on our blog. We did start doing our blogs. We're gonna start putting some tiktoks up as well. We just really haven't had the time, especially with us being sick. The last topic we had for today, and it should be a fun one. I put together a small little game that it's gonna kind of last throughout the year, and I'm gonna try to come up with more. I put together a jar of topics to talk about, and this is not one of them. Alyssa came up with this one on her own today and she's super proud of it. But I did put together a jar full of little papers that have little topics that we can talk about. And I think it would be fun to maybe every once in a while and have to be every week, pick one out and then discuss it on the fly. Yeah, so are you ready for this one? No? If you could have a superpower, but it had to be kind of useless. What would it be. I could like every time I think of when, I'm like, well, is it useless? Not really to me. I wouldn't want a power that was useless. See, I think it's totally useless to everybody but me. But also I just like get jerk. So mine would be the high things that only I could find and just make everyone. Think they're going crazy. Totally useless. No one needs it, I want. It's so bad. But see I already have that. My husband asked me where things are and I'm like, it's right in front of your face, and I can't pick on him. I can't. I've been good. My therapist says, I need to be good. No, I would be like, oh, Alice, where's your cough pike cup? Which that's how you get hurt, just supposed random bullshit. I'd be like, where did it go? So you you? So it's not it is use useful for you because it's a prank. That's oh unfair. It's only useful time. Oh my god. So I guess I can't. I came up with one, but to me, it's useful. To anyone else? Is it useful? No? Because it's only for me. Because I went selfish with it. I was saying, if I had any super it would be that I would just magically like conjure up any food or snack. I love that it's useless, but it's not useless at all. Because I know, like I guess, people could ask me to conjure up a snack that they want, but I feel like it would only be useless if it was just for me, or even more useless if I could conjure up any snack that my toddler wants. I mean, you know, would be helpful for me. But also fruit all the time, grapes, green grapes, it has to be green too, cannot be red grapes. Or muffins, chocolate chip muffins. Yeah, that's pretty much it. Candy, she likes candy. You know, she's been super into the frozen gogurts perfect. Oh yeah. I was like, heck, yeah, we're doing this now. She loves them.
